Leek Properties was started in 1999 when James Leek purchased one house. Raised in Fort Scott and graduated from Ft. Scott High School in 1968, his mother and father, Ernestine and Hollis Leek, had always believed in Fort Scott and taught him to reinvest in Fort Scott. Ernestine and Hollis Leek ran Leek’s Men’s Wear & Lady’s Sportswear at 7 South Main which they started in 1947.
Following his parents’ advice, James started investing in rental properties with the help of David McCord, his first Property Manager. Some houses were ready to rent, and some were in terrible shape and needed complete rehabilitation. Leek and his wife, Sandra, of Olathe, Kansas enjoyed taking a house from an eyesore to a gem. We have put a few pictures below as examples. Currently Leek Properties rents thirty-two separate apartments and houses.
John Ravenscraft, Leek Properties’ current Property Manager, and James strive to provide excellent service to their tenants and constantly upgrade the properties. Following Hollis Leek’s advice, they hire local people to clean carpets, paint, trim trees and lawns; they purchase supplies, hardware, lumber and insurance locally and pay local property taxes. John lives in Fort Scott and is raising two young boys who attend Fort Scott schools.
